B.C. Fiedler

B.C. Fiedler... Bernie Fiedler is an established Canadian artist manager, producer and impresario. His career entertainment began in 1948 when he started singing with the Berliner Boys' Choir. With a gifted soprano voice, he soon became the choir's soloist and took on the role of Bastienne in Mozart's Singspiel Bastien und Bastienne. At the age of 12, he pursued acting and later started a jazz club in Berlin.
Fiedler is well known in the entertainment industry for his successful development of Canadian talent in the international music scene. After immigrating to Canada in 1957, he was a key developer of the world-famous Yorkville District of Toronto. He established several coffee houses including the renowned The Riverboat, bringing in such acts asGordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, James Taylor, Bruce Cockburn, Dan Hill, Jackson Browne, and Simon and Garfunkel. Fiedler is also a past partner in True North Records, which launched the recording careers many of Canada's most well-known performers and songwriters. Fiedler's achievements on behalf of Canadian artists have been documented in numerous artists' biographies and books including Rabbi Rosenberg's The Jewish Community in Canada and Nicholas Jennings' Before the Gold Rush: Peace, Love and The Dawn of Canadian Sound.
Fiedler has managed the international careers of some of Canada's top musicians including Dan Hill, Liona Boyd, Canadian Brass, Quartetto Gelato and in partnership with B. Finkelstein, Murray McLauchlan and Bruce Cockburn. His expertise in promoting Canadian talent and helping to maintain their longevity in the world market is exemplified in the careers of Dan Hill, Canadian Brass, Liona Boyd, The Nylons, and most recently Pavlo and John Arpin, all household names world-wide and highly respected in the arts community. For over 30 years, he has promoted and produced concerts for artists such asGordon Lightfoot, Miles Davis, Anne Murray, Leonard Cohen, Rita MacNeil, Neil Young and many more.
He has inspired and encouraged others to develop their acumen in arts administration. He has served as mentor to a number of young people who have gone on to become key players in the music industry, such as Rob Bennett (House of Blues Concerts), Jane Harbury (publicist), Joanne Smale (publicist) and Elisa Amsterdam (artist manager and promoter).
In 1996, Fiedler produced "Clarence Darrow: A One-Man Play" starring Leslie Nielsen, in a Canadian tour which included Saint John's Imperial Theatre, the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto, the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, the Centennial Theatre in Vancouver, and the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton as well as a U.S. tour including Boston, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and more. In addition, Fiedler produced "Educating Rita" starring veteran Canadian actor Sean Mulcahy and talented actress Catherine Vaneri.
Fiedler also runs "SGM-Sleeping Giant Music Incorporated" a nationally distributed label that featured Quartetto Gelato's first two CD's, Pamela Morgan and currently Pavlo, The Nylons and John Arpin. In addition, Fiedler operates B.C. Fiedler Publishing, which promotes Canadian compositions and classical arrangements in Canada and internationally.
Fiedler also used to operate the family-oriented advertising agency "CityKids", which promoted awareness of children's charities (Hospital for Sick Children, Variety Club, Kids Help Phone and Multiple Sclerosis), as well as promoted regional arts organizations such as Young People's Theatre and TVOntario.
B.C. Fiedler is a member of CARAS (The Canadian Association for Recording Arts and Sciences) and CIRPA (The Canadian Independent Record Produces Association).
